McKay Arts Academy is committed to creating a democratic community of reflective, critical, and creative learners, in which the whole child is valued, including their social, emotional and intellectual development. We are committed to creating an environment that supports the diversity of students’ learning styles and cultures. We are committed to accelerating the achievement of all students in academic, social, emotional, and physical areas. We will use data from a variety of assessments, both standardized and performance-based, to identify student growth over time and to drive improvement in curriculum and instruction.

  • McKay Arts Academy Applies For Innovation Schools Enhancement Grant The Fitchburg State University (FSU) Teacher Center houses the McKay Arts Academy, a Pre K-8 Innovation School.  At McKay Arts Academy we are approaching our second year as an Innovation School, unifying the former McKay Campus School (Pre K-4) and the Fitchburg Arts Academy Pilot School (5-8).   Our Pre K–8 Innovation School has used all six of our granted autonomies: curriculum, budget, schedule, staffing, professional development, and district policies to build a comprehensive plan towards consistently improving performance for all students.  A newly re-constituted teacher and administrative Innovation Planning Team (IPT) created a consensus-based democratic structure which allowed all faculty to revisit and redesign the school’s mission and vision, building upon the commonalities ...
