McKay Arts Academy
Educating the whole child through the arts.
Welcome to McKay Arts Academy!
The McKay Arts Academy (MAA) is a diverse, Pre K-8 Innovation School that provides a safe and inclusive learning environment. Our students build character, self-confidence, academic and social leadership skills to become creative problem-solvers and responsible, productive citizens. At MAA, the Common Core curriculum is infused with standards based arts integrated projects to foster expression and creativity in all students. All staff members in partnership with parents and community collaborate to provide students appropriate resources to achieve success in all disciplines, and to progress socially and emotionally.
Recently, there was a transfer of ownership of the McKay Arts Academy Principalship from Fitchburg State University to the Fitchburg Public Schools.
As part of this transition, Lourdes Ramirez has assumed a new position with Fitchburg State University.
Mark Pierce (FHS '87) has assumed the McKay Principal duties for the remainder of this school year.
Mr. Pierce's most recent role was Math Coach at FHS, with prior experience as Assistant Principal of FHS.
Mark brings school leadership, academic coaching, and student discipline background and experience during FHS’ voluntary turnaround and relationship with DESE's Statewide System of Support to McKay, which is presently classified as a school in Turnaround, to his new position.
“A search for a Turnaround Principal/ Educational Leader for McKay will begin soon,” Fitchburg Public Schools Superintendent Robert Jokela said. “We thank Principal Ramirez for her contributions to McKay and Fitchburg Public Schools.”
